Zac spent 14 months completing his apprenticeship and since then has continued to work in our kitchen.

We are incredibly proud to have supported Zac in his ambitions and to have given him the chance to make a start in his chosen career. With National Apprenticeship Week (6th to 10th March) fast approaching, it’s a great time to celebrate the concept of apprenticeships and to spread the word about the benefits for both businesses and young people.

During his time here, Zac has learned not just basic cooking skills but has also had valuable experience in a busy kitchen, learned about Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine, helped devise and cook specials as well as the regular menu and confirmed that his future lies in the world of cooking.

Taking on Zac has been a really positive experience for us at Heddy’s and we’re delighted to have trained Zac and set him on the path in his career. Zac will shortly be moving onto a new job and we are currently searching for a new apprentice for the restaurant as we really believe it’s a great way of nurturing talent and supporting young people – as well as the benefits to us in having a young, enthusiastic person working in the kitchen.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Heddy’s! http://www.heddys.com/its-beginning-to-look-a-lot-like-christmas-at-heddys/ http://www.heddys.com/its-beginning-to-look-a-lot-like-christmas-at-heddys/#respond Sat, 10 Dec 2016 12:50:02 +0000 http://dev.onionring.co.uk/heddys2016/?p=209 We got festive on Friday with a parade of Santas along Water Lane. Passers-by were delighted to see a line of Santas conga-ing down the street and it certainly started getting everyone in the Christmas spirit.

The Santas finished their parade at Heddy’s with a well-deserved drink and mince pie whilst singing Christmas songs to entertain customers and passers-by.

We organised the Santa parade to spread some Christmas cheer. We wanted to wish all our customers and the people of Wilmslow a very merry Christmas, and this seemed a wonderful way of getting the fun and festivities started. It was magical to see so many Santas and to see the smiles they brought to people’s faces.

Wilmslow Guardian Food and Drink Awards http://www.heddys.com/heddys-a-runner-up-in-wilmslow-guardian-food-and-drink-awards/ http://www.heddys.com/heddys-a-runner-up-in-wilmslow-guardian-food-and-drink-awards/#respond Wed, 23 Nov 2016 12:52:34 +0000 http://dev.onionring.co.uk/heddys2016/?p=212 We are delighted to have been announced as runner up in the ‘overall dining experience’ category in the Wilmslow Guardian Food and Drink Awards.

The award recognises our quality offer of freshly cooked food, excellent range of wines, and friendly service and atmosphere. We use fresh and locally sourced products; and are still using recipes which have been passed down the generations.

There has been a rise in restaurant chains which has made it harder for independent restaurants – it takes something more to really stand out in a crowded market – so we are very proud to have been recognised in these awards.

We would like to thank everyone who voted for us. We have enjoyed serving the Wilmslow community over the past 16 years and we are proud to be part of the community. Keep supporting independent restaurants and we will keep offering amazing food.

Heddy’s Turns Sweet Sixteen http://www.heddys.com/sixteen/ http://www.heddys.com/sixteen/#respond Tue, 25 Oct 2016 16:12:48 +0000 http://dev.onionring.co.uk/heddys2016/?p=138 Wilmslow restaurant, Heddy’s is celebrating its sixteenth birthday.  The family-run business, which is the longest running restaurant in Wilmslow, is owned and operated by husband and wife team, Heddy and Cathy.

Having worked for the award winning Yang Sing restaurant for over 13 years, Heddy decided the time was right to open his own restaurant and so bought Alkazaar, a Middle-Eastern restaurant which occupied half of the current Heddy’s site.  Since then the restaurant has seen many changes including doubling the floor space by taking over the building next door, refurbishing the front of the building, adding an alfresco seating area, and developing two distinct dining areas: the relaxed bar area and the more formal restaurant.

Heddy commented: “I don’t know where the time has gone, but it’s been a busy and interesting 16 years.   We must have prepared over 175,000 meals over the years.  That’s a lot of falafel and kebabs.  We are really proud of the quality of our food which brings guests back time and again.  We use fresh and locally sourced products; and are still using recipes which have been passed down the generations.  We are really proud of our wine list too.

“We have enjoyed serving the Wilmslow community, as well as a number of celebrities and indeed royalty including Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.  A particular highlight of the last 16 years has to be cooking lobster on charcoal on live TV as part of a demonstration for ‘This Morning’.”

Cathy commented: “The restaurant really is a family affair, with our daughters having all waited-on at the restaurant.  They are now all grown up and living in London, with the eldest Yasamin who is 26 and recently got married, working in events; Ellahay working in the fashion industry; and our youngest Fariba studying Government & Politics at the London School of Economics.  But they still enjoy working a shift at the restaurant and chatting to our regular customers when they come to visit us.”

Heddy added: “We are really grateful to all of our customers who have supported us through the years.  We hope that they have had as much fun in the restaurant as we have had and we look forward to celebrating countless more birthdays.”
